We are pleased to announce our funding of a new Staff Wellbeing Nurse Practitioner thanks to a generous grant from NHS Charities Together

As a result of the pandemic, many staff at the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust have worked extended hours and not taken their annual leave as they would normally to maintain their health and wellbeing. In addition, due to shift patterns and working hours, it can be difficult for staff to access their GP for appointments. High quality patient care relies on staff who are not only physically and mentally well enough to do their jobs, but also feel valued and supported.

Having taken the above factors into consideration, our charity consulted key Trust colleagues and identified the need for a Staff Wellbeing Nurse role and together shaped this key and innovative post.

We are delighted to have secured the funding for this role and are pleased to welcome Sumita Regmi as the Trust's new Staff Wellbeing Nurse Practitioner. As part of her role, Sumita will be visiting wards and departments across all Trust's sites offering health checks for staff in the workplace.

Sumita has 14 years' experience at the Trust as a Dementia Clinical Nurse Specialist and, more recently, has worked as part of the Trust's Covid testing team and its vaccination centres. She also featured in a nationwide NHS England campaign raising awareness of Covid vaccinations.

Our team recently spoke with Sumita, who told us:

I want to reach out to every member of staff to offer health checks and provide general information on topics such as high blood pressure, diabetes and back problems. I will also be referring them to other services, with their consent, as needed

Sumita and the Trust’s wellbeing team will be organising regular in person events as well as online webinars. These will be focused on subjects such as managing the menopause, men’s health and stress management.

We have no doubt that Sumita's experience, enthusiasm and dedication for the role will lead to many a positive change to the wellbeing of our Trust staff.

We are grateful to NHS Charities Together for their support in helping us fund this key role.

If you'd like to help us continue to fund our staff wellbeing initiatives, then please consider donating, we are so appreciative of your generosity.
