A Journey of Strength, Support, and Gratitude: Donation for Tiger Ward As a heartfelt thank you for the exceptional care eight-year-old Maisie received at Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Tiger Ward, her family and local community raised an amazing £421 donated to the ward. Maisie’s journey started in November 2022, where she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) which led to just over two years of gruelling treatment. After initially receiving care at Royal Marsden Hospital, Maisie's care was then transferred to QEH, her local hospital. By the end of January 2025, thanks to her resilience and bravery, as well as support from her family and the care frpm the team at Tiger Ward, Maisie was able to proudly ring the ‘end of treatment bell’, an emotional and incredibly important moment for any young patient. Maisie, with her, older sister Abbie and Tiger Ward Clinical Nurse Specialists (Left to right) Catherine Wilde, Samantha MacDonald, Emily Walton on Tiger Ward after ringing the bell to mark the end of her treatment. We caught up with Maisie’s and her Mum Laura, who shared how grateful they were to the Tiger Ward team. Laura said: “We just absolutely loved the guys here. They were so supportive. Every time we had any issues, questions or queries, we just like called and we could get an answer straight away. We felt we had direct access to the Ward which is fantastic!” To celebrate the end of Maisie's treatment, her family held a party at their local pub The Plough, whose staff kindly offered to do a collection around the bar to raise funds for Tiger Ward, on behalf of Maisie. In addition, a family friend offered a further £100 donation to Maisie's father Kev to wear bunny ears on a Disneyland ride - which he promptly did, taking the total tally raised to a brilliant £421! The whole family have shown bravery and resilience from start to finish; we cannot thank them enough for the generous donation - it will help us to continue our work enhancing patient care and staff experience at Tiger Ward, a paediatric oncology shared care unit. We all wish Maisie nothing but the best in the future and hope she keeps in touch.” Maisie and Laura with Tiger Ward CNS Sam MacDonald and Dr Cunningham after receiving a certificate of appreciation If you're feeling inspired by this story, and wish to find out more about our events contact us at [email protected].
