Our Charity is making a difference to the Paediatric Diabetes team's patients by supplying items to assist their diabetes management.

Adele Swart, Paediatric Diabetes Dietician at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust explained,

"On behalf of our children and families newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation of kitchen scales, Carbs & Cals books, measuring cups, and pencil cases. Your support has made a profound impact on our group, especially for those transitioning from primary to secondary school.

The kitchen scales, measuring cups, and Carbs & Cals books have been invaluable tools in empowering families to start carb counting soon after diagnosis, an essential step in managing blood glucose levels. For many of our families living in areas of high deprivation, these resources have broken down barriers, enabling them to take control of their diabetes and work towards reducing their HbA1c levels to optimal ranges. This early intervention is crucial in improving long-term health outcomes for these children.

The pencil cases, which serve as both a goodie bag and a practical tool for managing diabetes in school, have been particularly well-received. They offer a discreet way for students to carry their glucose tablets and diabetes supplies, helping them manage hypoglycaemia episodes with confidence as they navigate this new chapter in their lives.

Your kindness has truly levelled the playing field for these families, allowing them to focus on what’s most important: their health and wellbeing. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to improving their lives."

Our charity is committed to enhancing the experience for our patients at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, we are delighted to support children's services with new equipment to enhance the care our patients receive.
