On Friday 10 September, members of the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Choir proudly presented a cheque for £24,000 to NHS Charities Together and the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity.

The money was raised through the choir’s collaborations with Justin Bieber on the single ‘Holy’, and with Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and P!nk on the single ‘Anywhere Away from Here’. ‘Holy’ reached the iTunes and Spotify top five, and ‘Anywhere Away from Here’ reached number 9 in the UK Official Charts.

Choir members Caroline Smith, Belinda Champion and Claire Wade presented the cheque to Ellie Orton, CEO of NHS Charities Together, and Margarita Vidiella, Head of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity.

Ellie said: “We are so grateful to the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Choir for all that they do to both entertain the public and raise money for the NHS. NHS Charities Together supports our health services to do more, whether it’s improving hospital environments, funding state-of-the-art technology or providing psychological services for NHS staff. The money the choir has raised will made a significant difference to NHS staff and patients.”

Choir leader Caroline Smith said:

We are delighted to have raised such a huge amount of money for the two charities – and we had a lot of fun on the way!

Margarita Vidiella said: “Our choir is made up of doctors, nurses, therapists, admin and support staff who work tirelessly to support the NHS outside of their day jobs. The money they have raised will go towards our staff wellbeing programme.  Grants from NHS Charities Together have already helped us fund two staff psychologists, buy furniture and appliances for staff rest areas and fund a new bike shelter for staff. We are working on plans to invest in more benefits for staff, which we’ll share once they’re finalised.”

At the cheque presentation event, Ellie was introduced to Pavan Kaur and Alan Flynn, the Trust’s in- house staff psychologists, and Maggie O’Shea and Aneta Saunders, two palliative care nurses, whose posts were part funded by NHS Charities Together.
